Information about Luisa-maria

I am a Fine Artist, Poet, Illustrator and Textiles Designer with a BAhons 1st in Textiles Design for Fashion (London College of Fashion). I have recently completed a full scholarship with the Royal Drawing School and also hold a Foundation Diploma in Art &Design from Chelsea College of Art.

Availability: Weekdays/Evenings/occasional weekends

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: In the past I have taught both textiles and drawing to a range of students both in schools and private classes, having hosted a talk at Dame Alice Harpur School on Higher Education in the Arts I was invited back to design and teach a series of workshops in the textiles department. These classes were aimed at GCSE/A-level students, the focus of which was to prepare the students with specialist and transferable skills that would help them in pursuing a career in Fashion or Textiles Design, such as pattern cutting, block manipulation, specialist fabric skills, basic to advanced sewing and construction techniques.
I have also assisted with and taught life drawing classes to students of all ages as part of a community program with alumni of the Royal Drawing School through Gallery 57 Lewisham. I have planned and delivered classes on everything from basic lessons such as use of line, tone, composition, space, colour and form to traditional drawing and measuring techniques. I am also accustomed to booking and managing life models and preparing/clearing down materials before and after classes.

My practical skillset (trained to BA level or equal) includes Drawing, Painting, Printmaking (etching, lino, woodblock, screen-printing), Fashion Design (embroidery, print design, knitwear both machine and hand, weaving, pattern cutting and construction), Fashion Illustration, Photography (analogue and digital) Animation (basic), basic Ceramics knowledge and excellent computer literacy (Word, Excel, Photoshop, basic Indesign, basic CAD embroidery).
I also have experience in organizing, promoting, curating and hanging exhibitions as well as organizing professional fashion shows both home and abroad, which has required a hands-on attitude to DIY and a general practical and administrative skillset. I have extensive Art History knowledge both historical and contemporary, spanning the range of the arts as well as an excellent knowledge of London’s best artistic resources in the forms of Libraries, Museums and Galleries, alongside specialist Fashion/Textiles and History of Fashion knowledge.

As a practicing young artist who has completed all of my professional training (and higher education) in London I feel that I am also uniquely positioned to advise and assist older students with the application processes for both Foundation Diploma and BA courses. I am familiar with entry requirements and the compilation of portfolios and sketchbooks, maintain close connections with all my colleges and universities and would be very happy to offer students practical advice on higher education in the arts based on my own experience and that of friends and colleagues.
