I focus on teaching the AQA English Language and English Literature papers to year 11 students. My degree is in Literature and I have a background in theatre which helps me teach written plays as pieces to be performed, not just read. I enjoy analysing poems and taking students through the mechanics of the art; I love seeing them realise just how much there is to be found in a few short lines. Finally, I am a fully paid up member of the Grammar Police and leave no apostrophe unturned!

I went to University as a mature student having done badly at school, so I know what it is like to feel that you are no good at a subject. I feel that my experiences help me empathise with students who feel they`re `rubbish` at English; they`re not and I love seeing them grow in confidence and know that the skills I`m teaching will be useful for them way beyond their formal education.

My lessons are face to face, in the student`s home. English lessons are a conversation - not a lecture - I find face to face lessons far more productive than online lessons.

Availability: I can do weekdays after school until early evening. I can do weekends in the weeks leading up to national exams.

Experience: I have been tutoring the AQA exams to year 11 students for a few years. Time and time again I find that it is often not the students` skills that are lacking but their confidence. So, with my passion for the subject I find I can enthuse students and make them realise that - actually - it isn`t rocket science and they can do it!
