Information about Selina

Hi, my name is Temi. I am a third-year student of Politics, Philosophy and Law at King’s College London, where upon entry I was awarded the Dickson Poon Undergraduate Law Scholarship. I would love to be a personal tutor due to my genuine interest and passion for teaching and how my teachers helped me develop and become more confident in my abilities. I would love to help my students to develop in this way as well.

At school, I was awarded the English Literature and History prizes in my penultimate year as well as the Chandler prize for humanities in my final year. I believe that I am quite critical so I would be best suited to tutor in English Literature and Philosophy. The critical and literary skills which I gained from endeavours in my secondary school such as founding an interdisciplinary cultural and political magazine have also helped. I have also written a poetry anthology, a poem from this collection was chosen as a winner in a local poetry competition and thus I believe this enables me further to understand literature from a different perspective, as well as academically. This can be best shown through the fact that in my AS-Level English Literature ‘Poetry and Drama’ exam I gained 98% overall.

My tutoring will include essay writing advice, specific focus on areas of difficulty, access to exemplar full-mark essay’s with broken down analysis of strengths as well as tips for exam confidence and one-on-one mentorship to achieve academic goals.

I hope you will consider me for this role as I am genuinely passionate about seeing my students grow in their abilities and learn skills such as how to tackle past papers, having goals during each academic task, and the essential skill of planning, amongst other tips regarding their academic writing styles.

Availability: I’m available on Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Saturday’s.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have had experience in tutoring through enrolling in the mentoring scheme as part of the KCL ACS’s ASPIRE programme where I mentored a young girl from a local school in London through her final year of A-Levels helping her achieve her desired grades (A*AA), at John Wallis academy where I was able to tutor a young girl undergoing GCSE`s (all A*-B).
