Information about Marco

I am a QTS-qualified languages teacher (reference number 1676531) and an NRPSI-registered court interpreter, registration number 17503.

I was born in Italy, where I got my BA in Modern Foreign Languages (French, English, Spanish) and my MA in Translation (French and English). I came to the UK in 2016 and completed my PGCE year to qualify as a teacher, afterwards a passed my NQT year in a secondary school in Islington. In the meanwhile I studied to become an Italian community interpreter and I became a tutor, so after obtaining my qualification in CI, I also obtained my Law DPSI and became an NRPSI member in order to interpret and translate for courts and police, not only hospitals, and quit teaching in person. Finally, I got another BA in Classical Studies just for fun, because Latin and ancient Greek had been my passion since I was a teenager. I love travelling and learning new languages, such as Mandarin, Korean, modern Greek, etc.

Experience: I started to teach in the UK in 2016. I have experience in secondary school teaching from KS3 to A-levels. I taught French, Spanish, Italian and Latin. After 4 years I decided to move to just tutoring, familiarising with different exam boards, from AQA to EdExcel, OCR and iGCSE. Last but not least, Common Entrance Exam and even the challenge. When tutoring, I happened to have students of all ages, from primary school to students on their 60s for all kinds of reasons.

Getting the top grades such as 9 in the GCSEs and A* in the A-levels is easier than you think, but you have to learn A SOLID METHOD.

For modern languages, SPEAKING IS THE FIRST STEP! It requires different skills, such as listening, grammar, using complex phrases and the right vocabulary, whatever the initial level. There are some shortcuts I teach students to improve fast, and in some cases they even overcame native speakers in their exams because they knew what they needed to satisfy the examiners/mark scheme. Obviously I go through all skills and past papers whatever the exam board. The exam skills may differ a little, but the general strategies are always the same. For eample, one of my students, after passing both Latin and French in the Challenge for Westminster, prepared his FRENCH GCSE in 3 weeks and got a 9 when he was 12!

For Latin/Classical Greek, ANALYSIS is the key. My students learn what to expect from a text before even checking a dictionary, therefore they don`t need to look at the meaning of words to understand the structure of a sentence, even if it`s very complex. There are methods to scaffold different endings and memorise them faster.
