I can easily say the success I have today is due to the amazing tutoring I had as a teenager. I had two tutors who took a skills-based approach to tutoring. Instead of sitting down and repeating the material I heard in class, they would challenge me to develop my skills. They made me practice and repeat the skills I was poorest with to help me study and perform at higher levels. The process was a total success, and gave me the confidence to tackle my hard courses at UC Davis and Harvard.
I take the same approach with each of my students. I assess each student`s skill set for a module and identify whether the student has an issue with a skill or knowledge (the material of the module). I will then give lessons that develop the weakest skill and reinforce the material that the student is currently covering.
I once had a particularly bright law student who could recite the facts and ratio of every case on her case list. Surprisingly, she had extremely poor marks on her exams. After I read one of her essays, it became extremely clear why her marks were so low. Her writing was so unclear and disorganised that graders were assuming she did not understand the material. I spent my time challenging her writing skills and giving her advice to help her communicate her points. The transformation was nothing short of dramatic.
In a similar vein, I teach science like a foreign language. I spend time making sure my students understand the vocabulary of a topic so they can explain concepts and processes with confidence. I have had many students who understood scientific processes but lacked the vocabulary necessary to articulate their mastery of the subject matter. Getting them to memorise the vocabulary made it easier for them to get higher marks on exams.
Some tutors lecture at students- I give wakeup calls.

Grace is an incredible tutor with great experience and a lot of knowledge. I highly recommend her!
Grace is a real inspiration to my daughter. My daughter went from not wanting a tutor to looking forwards to her lessons and willingly sitting through two hours sessions. Her results have visibly improved and she is keen to do triple science for GCSEs.
Grace is an excellent and resourceful teacher who is always well-prepared and who makes learning enjoyable.
