My name is Matt, I’m 23 years old and have been tutoring Maths and Economics for two years. Since leaving the University of Exeter with a First-Class Degree in Economics in 2016, I have worked at Cardiff Sixth Form College, the highest performing institution for A Levels in the UK.

I have always had a love of Maths as far back as I can remember. It was my go-to answer for the “What’s your favourite subject at school?” question when I was young, and this love stayed present as I grew up. I have always enjoyed the logical processes and problem solving in Maths and feel the subject can and should genuinely be fun! My interest in problem solving and the real-world applications of Maths have fuelled my enjoyment of Economics. I found the subject thoroughly interesting at degree level, particularly Microeconomics and analysing how and why people make the choices that they do.

I will help my students by equipping them with basic skills which will give them confidence before building on these foundations with more complex topics in the syllabus. I am committed to creating an environment where a student’s questions and desire to look deeper into a subject are wholeheartedly encouraged.

Experience: I have always wanted to work in education and therefore have worked with children in various different capacities since leaving school. The most relevant of these experiences is my time at Cardiff Sixth Form College. I tutored Maths and Economics to small groups of students who required a little extra support to achieve the top grades. During my time at the college, I worked very closely with highly experienced teachers whilst planning these lessons and I learnt to provide education of the highest quality.

I also tutor Maths and Economics online at MyTutor and hold a 5 star rating on that site. I have done work experiences and observations at multiple top schools around Shropshire and have spent my summers working at the Summer School at Concord College.

These experiences have taught me how to communicate with clarity, the most important skill of a teacher in my opinion, and how to make the subjects relevant and interesting to the student.
