Information about Alastair
I am currently a primary school teacher in Suffolk and have taught for many years in primary schools in Cambridgeshire. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Social and Political Sciences from Churchill College at Cambridge University in 1996. I also received an MA (Cantab) from Churchill College in 1998. I was awarded a Primary PGCE in 2001 from Homerton College at Cambridge University. In my younger days, I passed the 11-plus and attended a grammar school, achieving 9 A grades at GCSE and an A grade in A-level maths.
My approach to teaching and learning is that every child can make excellent progress and reach their full potential, given the necessary support and encouragement. I always aim to make my lessons fun and engaging and I have an excellent understanding of the difficulties and common misconceptions that children may have in a particular subject area. I have a good sense of humour and a very supportive and patient approach to tutoring.
Availability: Weekday evenings and weekends
Willing to travel: 30 miles
Experience: I am a fully qualified teacher, with 14 years` experience working in primary schools as a class teacher and Deputy Head. I have taught Key Stage 1 and 2 English and maths, with children I taught achieving outstanding results in statutory tests. I have worked in both state and private schools and have given assistance to children undertaking entrance examinations at age 11. I have a very good working knowledge of Special Educational Needs and children`s potential barriers to learning, having been a SENCo for many years.

Alistair has been tutoring my daughter for a few months for her GCSE Maths. He has a great approach towards teaching, making people feel at ease and helping them find their strengths and weaknesses -thus implementing learning and progress for the individual.I would strongly recommend Alistair for a tutor and I have noticed the change in my daughter towards her work and watched her confidence grow. Very pleased.
