Information about Sky

I am a dedicated, hardworking, patient and encouraging tutor. I am hugely enthusiastic and will always try to relate what I’m teaching to real-world phenomena to try to foster a love of the subject. I believe it’s important to form an excellent working relationship with tutees, one that is rooted in mutual respect. I expect tutees to work hard, and, in return, I aim to make sessions as engaging as possible. Not being much older than the students myself, I usually find a way to connect with them on a personal level too.

Having taught for two and a half years I have developed a range of techniques for effective teaching at all ability levels. I have a near encyclopaedic of the syllabi from all exam boards and expertise in handling finicky mark schemes.

I have also amassed a wealth of tricks, tips, memory tools and rubrics to help students pick up full marks in long answer questions and also analyse material better.

I have extensive knowledge of Maths, Physics and Chemistry. I studied them all at a University level (as part of the Natural Sciences Tripos), and regularly relearn and research them in my spare time.

Availability: Available on weekends and weekday evenings.

Online tutoring is preferred. I do this via skype using a Wacom Intuos Drawing Pad and an online whiteboard (bitpaper.io)

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have tutored 3 A Level Students in Maths and Chemistry last year all to A/A* level. They are now studying at Edinburgh, Oxford and Georgetown.

I run weekly extension sessions in Chemistry for the highest ability at my school. This involves coaching them on how to tackle streching questions and givingthem numerous practice interviews asking Oxbridge style questions I devised myself. It also involves teaching super-syllabic material that gives students an insight into university-level Chemistry.

Of the 3 students who regularly attended the first year of sessions, one is at Oxford, one at Cambridge and the other at Imperial. This was the first time our school had ever received an offer for either Natural Sciences at Cambridge or Chemistry at Oxford.

This year the course led to an unprecedented number of Oxbridge offers. Four students were offered a place for for Natural Sciences at Cambridge and one for Chemistry at Oxford.

Based on two years of firm evidence it is clear that my approach to extension and Oxbridge application prep is highly effective and can yield phenomenal results.

These extension sessions have also led to the best results in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and Chemistry Olympiad in my school’s history. This year, my school having never achieved higher than a silver previously, five of the students who attended my preparatory sessions secured a gold in the Olympiad, with one pupil ranking in the top 150 in the country.
