Information about Ruth
Many people have a mental block when it comes to their mathematical abilities. Perhaps they have always taken more time than others to master a new concept, or maybe they understand most things easily but for some reason are struggling with one aspect of their course.
I believe anyone can understand maths with the right teaching. This means building a strong foundation of the skills involved, working up slowly to incorporate new concepts, then tackling harder problem solving questions to summarise this new information.
There are many different ways to explain a new concept, all it takes is to find the one that clicks, and then work up from there. I`m passionate about teaching, and will work hard to ensure that any student achieves his or her goals.
I have experience teaching both GCSE and A Level students in mathematics, with abilities ranging from those striving for a C, all the way to A Level Further Maths students looking to apply to Oxbridge.
I have completed a Mathematics degree at the University of Leeds, for which I use maths skills gained at school every single day, and I am confident in teaching GCSE both higher and foundation, and A Level modules C1-4, S1, M1-3 and FP1-3.
I currently work as a trainee actuary in pensions, so continue to use the my mathematical ability and analytical mind in my work.
Availability: Any weekday evening and weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I taught for a year in Harris Academy Battersea in London, where I tutored small groups of students who were re-sitting their GCSE`s, assisted in larger classes of high ability students, and taught both the AS and A Level Physics classes.
I received excellent feedback from the students, and achieved a `Good` when inspected by E-Qualitas, on my first ever inspection.
I have also privately tutored several students through this site, all of whom achieved their desired goals.
