As Dr Alastair B I have extensive teaching experience in schools as a Science teacher, specialising in Chemistry, and at university as a lecturer in Organic Chemistry. I am a member of the TTA.
I have a BSc (Hons.) degree and PhD in Chemistry. I have taught Science as a fully qualified teacher for secondary school education since 2006 and am a qualified Higher Education lecturer. I enjoy tutoring and my students have all benefited enormously from individualised support in preparation for their examinations.
My Online Enhanced DBS certificate is fully up to date an is fully approved.
Availability: Online tuition is available on weekdays during the mornings afternoons and evenings throughout the summer holidays.
All tuition is currently online.
Mondays to Fridays between 8.00 am to 8.00pm
No tuition times are available on Sunday.
With the return to school in September I will continue to offer online tuition only. This has been highly successful for students on a dedicated online tuition platforms. Over 1000 hours tuition online as Alastair.
Face-to-face tuition will resume at an appropriate time, this is not the start of the 2022-23 academic year.
On-line tuition is a valuable option to maximise tuition teaching time options for students at this very busy time of the academic year.
Students will receive a PDF of the notes if an independent whiteboard is used and the resources available through Tutor Hunt if their online classroom is chosen for lessons. This minimise the need to make notes during the lesson. Additional help sheets and practice questions will be supplied as appropriate.
Screen sharing will permit the use of animations and video-clips to help students understand theoretical concepts and gain an insight into the practical work that is linked to the theoretical concepts.

Experience: I have taught Chemistry, Biology and Physics to GCSE in schools for the AQA and the Edexcel IGCSE specification.
At A Level I have taught the entire Chemistry course, my students have taken the AQA, Edexcel and OCR examinations and achieved the highest grades. I have helped student prepare for Oxbridge interviews through extension lessons beyond the A level specification, and coached students for technical interviews.
I have also taught introductory chemistry for non-specialist undergraduate students, as well as organic chemistry and analytical chemistry to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. More recently I have coached verbal and non-verbal reasoning for 11+ entry examinations.

Oliver really enjoyed his Chemistry tutoring sessions with Alastair. He was very quick to respond by email to any questions we had and he came to our house to tutor Ollie. He was able to help him with improving on answering exam questions and areas of the curriculum that he needed to work on. Unfortunately due to Covid Ollie didn`t have the opportunity to retake his A Level but we were confident that with Alastair`s help he would`ve improved his grade.
