Information about Matthew
I am a passionate student of the English language myself and for over ten years have worked as a copywriter on projects involving brands such as Charlie`s Angels, Scrubs, Disney`s Cars, Warhammer 40k and many more. I recently self-published my first novel and am working on the follow up with the intention of publishing in late 2016.
Both my mother and step-father taught in grammar schools in Kent and growing up in that environment has enabled me to be a confident writer, debater and communicator. I tutored and mentored my two younger brothers through their English GCSE`s and helped them achieve a solid grounding for University essay writing, the older of the two having just received his degree in Psychology and is himself pursuing a career in teaching.
I am looking to continue to share my passion for the english language and its literature, particularly my love of Shakespeare and the romantic poets, both of which feature prominently at Key Stages 3 and 4. I work closely to the National Curriculum to ensure effective learning, but openly encourage reading and writing for pleasure, as I believe these are intrinsic to mastering the skills required for academic success.
I believe English tuition can be a valuable tool, not just for those who struggle to digest archaic language or tricky concepts, but also those who feel constrained in their appreciation and discussion of the set texts within the narrow school timeframe. I recognise the importance of structure, symbolism and style, an understanding of which can greatly improve essay writing at university and communication in the fast-paced post-graduate workplace.
I also maintain a profile on Tutora.
