Information about Ailsa

My name is Ailsa and I graduated from York St John University in 2015 with a 2:1 in History. I then worked for a year teaching English before attending the University of York and achieving an Outstanding grade in my Secondary and Post 16 (KS3 - 5) teacher training course (PGCE). I am currently working in an Ofsted rated Outstanding school in the North East and also working as a GCSE Edexcel examiner.

I have 6 years experience in the classroom, teaching both History and English from KS3 - GCSE, with some experience teaching A-Level History. I also have experience teaching online, and also teaching 1-1 or in small groups. For older pupils (GCSE/A-Level) I will teach in line with the exam specification they are studying. I have experience teaching the GCSE Edexcel Specification and have attended numerous training courses regarding the expectations of the exams. I have taught the following GCSE topics: Elizabethan England, Cold War, American West, Crime and Punishment, Medicine Through Time and Weimar/Nazi Germany. For KS3, I have experience teaching the following topics: The Romans, The Saxons, The Normans, Medieval England, The Tudors, The Reformation, Migration Through Time, The Stuarts, The English Civil War, Industrial Revolution, Empire, Slavery, Dying for the Vote, WW1, Russian Revolution, WW2, The Holocaust, Nuclear Warfare, origins of the Cold War and The Civil Rights Movement in America.

My tutoring style is friendly, but structured. I like to think that pupils will feel comfortable approaching me with any queries they have about the topics they are studying, where students are not afraid of `getting things wrong` or asking `stupid questions`. I work hard to make my lessons interesting and creative to enable students to retain more knowledge, striving for my pupils to enjoy the History lessons they have with me. My goal is to help students achieve their full potential and I will strive tirelessly for them to do so.
