Information about George
My name is George, I am a 26 year old Theoretical Physicist and I have a genuine love for teaching. Even since I was in school, studying for my GCSEs, I took whatever opportunity I could to help teach younger students and I enjoyed it immensely. Since then I have gained 3 A*s at A Level - in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I have achieved a first class MSci degree in Theoretical Physics at The University of Birmingham and I have completed a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics at The University of Warwick (I will be graduating later this year). During that time I have been committed to my passion for teaching and I have successfully joined a specialised programme for gaining a teaching degree called Researchers in Schools, aimed at doctorate-holders who want to teach at state schools.
I am a highly personable and patient individual, with experience in working with students across a wide range of ages and abilities - whether they have been struggling or if they are already doing well and would like to strive further. With my PhD winding down I am also very flexible - available to work any time of the day and any day of the week.
I very much look forward to the opportunity to work with you or your kids!
Availability: Very flexible, any day of the week and any time of day.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: - Teaching in Physics Module as part of my undergraduate degree at The University of Birmingham, involving 4 hours a week as a teaching assistant for two and a half months and a project of my own design on intuitive ways to teach physics.
- Teach Physics Internship with the Ogden Trust at RSA Academy in Tipton, involving one month as a payed, full-time teaching assistant; leading two full classes of Maths and Physics; and a reflective project.
- Three years as an Undergraduate Lab Demonstrator as part of my PhD, involving the supervision of experiments; marking lab books; and additional voluntary tutoring.
- Multiple instances of payed private tutoring with colleagues, including assistance with the acquisition of a fire safety diploma.
- A successful application for a specialised teaching course, which involved leading two secondary school physics classes.
