Information about Karen
Hello, I am a freelance tutor of GCSE Biology, based in Prestwood, Buckinghamshire. I am an Oxford Graduate with a 2.1. in Biological Sciences, a PhD in wheat genetics and a PostDoc in the genetic regulation of immune responses. I have a broad and varied background, including 8 years as Head of Education at Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
Now in Buckinghamshire I work freelance, hosting school visits at outdoor education centres, running A-level ecology fieldwork sessions for the Field Studies Council, teaching adults introductory courses in botany and genetics, running evolution workshops in schools, and training primary school teachers in the plants parts of the Primary science curriculum.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I began 1 to 1 tutoring in Biology earlier this year, in response to requests from friends and colleagues. I have thoroughly enjoyed the tutoring so far, and have received positive feedback from my students and their families, so I am now in a position to take on more students. Most of my tutoring has been online so far, but I will consider teaching in person in a Covid-secure environment.
I have an enhanced DBS certificate and have completed a Level 2 EduCare course in Chld Protection. I have Professional Indemnity and Personal Liability business insurance. I hold an FAA level 3 award in outdoor First Aid.
