I have ten years professional experience as a private tutor, and over 7000 hours in one-to-one lessons. I have an MA from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge (English), and a Graduate Diploma in Law from City, University of London. Typically, my students` work improves by at least 1 full grade (and often more) over the course of a term`s lessons.

The great deal of time helping students work towards academic qualifications has given me an insight into exactly what the student needs to do to be rewarded by an examination mark scheme, and how to teach the specific student the best way of doing that. Further, I am a firm believer that the best way to improve a student`s abilities is to help them discover how to enjoy the subject, and therefore to improve their confidence.

My sessions are dynamic and interesting - my feedback speaks for itself! I ask lots of questions that will challenge the student to think carefully and solve the problem using their own brain. Those who understand not only what the answer is, but why it is - because they themselves have engaged with that process - will inevitably be more confident with the subject and fare better in exams.

I like to establish a plan early on, tailored towards the student and timeframe, to give a clear direction to the sessions. I am happy to be flexible according to their commitments. I am also available for marking and feedback out of session times. I will usually be able to mark work within 24 hours. My rates listed are for the session: they include reasonable materials, lesson prep, and marking.

In addition to ordinary teaching and exam preparation, I can offer help with university applications, personal statements, and Oxford/Cambridge interviews.

I particularly enjoy teaching English and Law to A level and undergraduate students, but have tutored in a wide range of subjects including the Sciences, Mathematics, and History, for all ages from young children to adults in the middle of their careers.
