Information about Asha
I am a second year student at University College London (UCL) studying Spanish and Latin American Studies. Although new to TutorHunt, I have four years worth of experience in tutoring Spanish with students from a GSCE or pre-GSCE level, to A-Level and Pre-U.
After completing my A-Levels and St Paul`s Girls` School, I was fortunate to spend four months in South and Central America solo-travelling. This trip allowed me to elevate my oral proficiency, build confidence in my comprehension and listening skills, and learn to adapt both culturally and linguistically between countries where the accent and language changes as quickly as the landscape! I achieved a high distinction in my Spanish and French Pre-U exams (Cambridge`s A Level Board awards D2 equivalent to an A**), and both papers are used as exemplars by my school.
Additionally, I have three Grade 8 qualifications in Piano, Drums and Musical Theatre, and I enjoy playing 1st Team Lacrosse with UCL. My immersion in orchestra and my classical training has taught me discipline, while captaining sports teams has honed my leadership and communication skills.
I believe my balanced outlook on life within and beyond the school realms, compounded with my positive and encouraging personality, make me a trustworthy and personable tutor and mentor.

Experience: Asha has been a really great tutor to our daughter. She has helped keep her Spanish going over lockdown - both her oral together with her enthusiasm for the subject while she has been off school! Asha is also very proactive and organised which we have really appreciated. (Latest parent feedback - this student is in Year 10)
I am currently tutoring 4 students from Year 9 to Upper Sixth. Lockdown and the subsequent move to Zoom-tutoring presented its own challenges, as well as new opportunities. I plan and structure engaging 1-hour lessons, covering all of the components of language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
I recently assisted one of my GSCE student in their end of year assessments, namely the dreaded oral - we worked on building a bank of powerful phrases, confidence in pronunciation, and solidifying key vocabulary. She achieved 100% on the assessment.
To provide an example, a GSCE lesson may proceed as follows: a weekly warm-up quiz on key topic vocabulary set the week before; a reading comprehension exercise introducing the theme/ topic of this week (eg. the environment); an oral discussion or debate developing understanding of the topic and new vocabulary, whilst revising key writing and oral phrases used to present; a compilation of past-paper questions focussed on that topic.
I adapt to the specific needs and interests of a student, and often sculpt the program around the academic year, providing extra assistance in marking and past-paper help around exam time. Thanks to my varied university course, I am also able to help students with Spanish literature and film, which is often included in the A-Level syllabus.
