Information about Matt

I left a job in industry 15 years ago to pursue a career teaching students Science. During this time I have worked with students of all backgrounds, trained new teachers and provide CPD to staff. I work with Southampton University and STEM learning partnerships to offer bespoke training to teachers and schools and Science and teaching. I have recently been asked to consult internationally in multiple countries to ensure schemes of work are high quality and appropriate.

I specialise in teaching and tutoring online using multiple platforms, I have been part of an international group exploring best practice and now provide training to other teachers in this field. I have provided many lessons on YouTube for my students and these are now freely available for all, these will continue until I have all areas of the GCSE curriculum covered.

I love spending time outdoors and have led many groups through their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards. I have recently set up a community interest company to teach Science and personal development using Bushcraft and outdoor education. I am also a qualified first aid instructor running first aid courses for children and adults.

Availability: I have availability most evenings and during the day on Fridays, contact me if you need more information as I generally try and be as flexible as I can to work with you.

Willing to travel: 12 miles

Experience: I have nearly 15 years of experience as a teacher and head of department teaching Science and outdoor education to a wide range of students of all abilities. I have previously tutored individuals at KS3 and KS4 who needed to move from a D to a C or needed secure their A* (Grade 8/9). I am also a STEM learning facilitator and work with Southampton University to deliver training to teachers to help improve their practice.

I regularly teach and tutor online using mulitple platforms and websites to ensure compatibility with students. My students have liked having access to the interactive whiteboards and shared folders that I use alongside the video/audio.

Many of the students I work with started off having a low confidence in Science and I frequently hear "thank you for making me believe I can do Science!"

Matt was a great tutor and very flexible. He was patient with my son and broke the learning down to manageable sizes. I would highly recommend him.
