Information about Tracey

AVAILABLE TO HELP WITH HOME SCHOOLING DURING THE LOCKDOWN! -
I am an English teacher, creative writing tutor and novelist from Teesside. Although I still am deeply passionate about teaching, in 2012, after more than 10 years teaching English, I left my job to focus on my creative writing. Doing so gave me the chance to complete a creative writing PhD at Northumbria University. For this course I was awarded a full scholarship and my research was completed and doctorate awarded in 2017.

I have so far published three books, my Celtic Colours trilogy (Green Dawn at St Enda`s, Herself Alone in Orange Rain and White Leaves of Peace) which are all available from Cinnamon Press. A fourth book, Rock God Complex, will be released by them in 2020 and and I under contract for two more novels in 2022 and 2023, which are currently in the planning/development stage. Before getting the long term publication deal with Cinnamon I extensively published short stories and articles in a range of magazines, literary journals and anthologies. My work has also won or been highly commended in several notable writing competitions.

No matter what successes I have with my writing teaching will always be important to me for the positive impact it enables me to make on the lives of my students and there is no greater sanctification than when a student `gets it`. For this reason I will always be, first and foremost, a teacher.

Experience: IF YOU WANT SUPPORT KEEPING YOUR CHILDREN’s EDUCATION ON TRACK DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME PLEASE CONTACT ME. I AM ABLE TO TUTOR REMOTELY VIA SKYPE! Book TEN one hour sessions and get the 11th free.

I have been teaching since 2002, working in secondary and sixth form education from key stages 3-5 as well as running courses for adult learners and, more recently, lecturing at undergraduate level. I have also worked in the primary schools, tutoring small groups of year 6 pupils in preparation for their English SATs.

My main specialism is creative writing, especially the creative writing exam questions on the current GCSE English specs. But I have taught all aspects of English literature and language at GCSE and A Level, including the combined lang/lit A Level English courses. My experience covers all the main exam boards and the IGCSE course and I have focused on teaching GCSE resit candidates to get the C/4 grade their need for college or employment. A large part of my teaching career included working with students on an individual or small group basis, specifically targeting attainment and helping students prepare for GCSE English exams. Privately I have tutored students from key stage 3 to A level in English and literature. My previous teaching includes a wide variety of texts (poetry, prose and drama - all the `usual suspects` that pop up on exam papers!) as well as topics such as language and gender, language acquisition and textual analysis. I am also very familiar with the creative writing elements of the A Level Eng Lang course (exam questions and coursework), and with my writing background, am able to help students get their best results in the creative writing tasks set for key stage 2 SATS, GCSE English and A level language syllabuses. More recently I have worked in primary education and am very familiar with the expected standard and greater depth in reading and writing tested in Year 6 SATs so I also offer tuition in this area.

As part of my PhD in creative writing I have gained experience of undergraduate teaching in both English literature and creative writing, delivering modules on historical fiction, creative non-fiction, novel writing and critical approaches to creative writing to candidates at all stages of undergraduate study. I have worked closely with undergraduates, helping them improve essays ready for submission and develop creative pieces for both submission and publication and am confident at tutoring at HE level.
