Information about Alan
I have taught GCSE and post 16 Chemistry (A Level (OCR and AQA) and IB) in a variety of schools for over 25 years. I have experience of marking and writing Level 3 exams. I have successfully tutored a number of students over the past years at both levels, mainly online but I am happy to give face to face tutoring if that is preferable. I use Zoom for online tutoring with add-on software as required and I have a wealth of teaching resources such as powerpoints and worksheets at GCSE and A Level. My work as an examiner and question setter gives me vital insight into exam technique, and this is central to the way in which I deliver my sessions. The first session is always offered at half-price to ensure it is what you need. I liaise with the student about their areas of need and prepare resources accordingly. Past paper questions are central to way in which I tutor, going through small chunks of theory first and then consolidate with exam questions.
Availability: I am now only available for one-offs. I shall review this throughout the year depending on my other commitments
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have 22 years of A-Level/IB Chemistry teaching and 25+ years of GCSE Science (and some Maths) teaching. I have tutored alongside my teaching for the past 2 years since the advent of Covid-19, and on-and-off for many years. I have held many leadership roles within teaching including Head of Science at a very prestigious Grammar School and Head of Chemistry at 2 very high achieving comprehensive secondary schools. I have been involved in preparing students for Oxbridge/Vet/Medic at my last 3 schools in the UK and can help with the very high challenge questions which differentiate the As from Bs and the A*s from As. I can also boost confidence for students who may have had disappointing mock exam results in year 10 or 12 - a huge amount of progress can be made in the final year both at GCSE and A Level.
