Information about Bethany
I am a fully qualified maths teacher, who has been teaching, secondary maths, for 5 years.
Before obtaining my PGCE and QTS, I completed an undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences at University College London.
Availability: Free from 3pm on weekdays
Weekend availability will vary from week to week
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have 5 years of teaching experience and 6 years of tutoring experience.
I have helped a range of students including those who struggled when first arriving at secondary school with KS3 maths to students in year 13 completing their A-Level. My main passion though, is those completing their GCSE.
I love educational research and use evidence-based methods to help students excel:
1) I use a mastery approach, ensuring students gain a deeper understanding of the key mathematical concepts.
2) I use manipulatives and often follow the PCA approach: pictorial, concrete and abstract. This means students understand the maths through physical objects, then pictures (such as bar models) before moving on to the abstract representation - algebra.
3) I incorporate the principals of intelligent practice, variation theory & cognitive overload within my lesson plans and will tailor each session to the needs of your child.
My results:
8A*s and 8As at GCSE
AAABB at AS-Level
A*AA at A-Level (A* in mathematics)
Second Class Honours in Natural Sciences
Distinction PGCE in Secondary Mathematics
P8 of +0.8
