Information about Karen
I am a previous Head of Maths in a special school and hold QTS. I was honoured to personally achieve `outstanding` by our Lead OFSTED Inspector during Dec 2014, who described the lesson as a `powerful learning experience`. In school, I taught students in small classes or 1:1, which has enabled me to become very specialised in identifying learning styles for students who have barriers such as ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, BESD and many other difficulties. I also work with young people who have been out of school and therefore have gaps in their learning and vulnerable learners where the focus is esteem building. I have also worked in mainstream schools.
I have experience of working with tutees who are from grammar schools, independent schools and mainstream comprehensives where students are all looking to raise their current working grade and maximise their potential. As a recently practising teacher, I am also fully conversant with the new maths GCSE (9-1) and I have lots of practice exam papers to develop exam technique.
My passion lies with developing students who have misconceptions or gaps in their maths knowledge. My considerable experience with ASD students has provided me with a large toolkit of strategies to support these learners.
I have a lovely quiet home on the Kent / Surrey borders, with no distractions. My study is very well resourced with a huge variety of teaching aids and concrete resources that I have acquired over the years. I am a very outgoing and humorous teacher who can always find a connection to reach a young person and identify with their learning style. I am available for KS2, KS3 and GCSE maths. I also have experience working with sixth form students and adult learners who are looking to achieve their maths GCSE .
Availability: Monday to Saturday day times and evenings, depending on availability. I can also offer Skype tutoring.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have a Post Grad Diploma in ASD ( Roehampton University) and my experience spans over 10 years in mainstream and special schools. I have managed an ASD unit attached to a Mainstream school and completed the TEACCH programme. Recently, I was Head of Maths in an `outstanding` special school in Kent.

I contacted Karen about my year 2 child in need of help with her maths and her confidence in this area. Karen has been great in helping my child feel settled and assessing her. I was really impressed how Karen identified the areas I was most concerned about within the first session. This filled me with confidence that she was really tailoring the tutorial session for my child. Karen offered us a meeting before the first session as well to ensure that my daughter was comfortable. Karen also offers great study aids that are not available else where and this has helped with the learning.
I am also impressed with how Karen has identified a wider problem with my daughters approach to learning and is helping to make this less of an issue.
I thoroughly recommend Karen.
