Information about Joan
I enjoy working alongside students to help them move forward with their knowledge and understanding, not only of what the course means for the exam and how to answer questions, but also how to apply that to life, and life changes and technology moves in, for example, during Covid-19 I helped lead teaching online in our school and I feel that there is a lot value of teaching that way, particularly coaching.

Experience: I`ve been teaching 19 years following a 20 year career working in industry in the IT department of large companies. I`ve been Head of Department at two schools and have been instrumental in introducing Computer Science at a successful school in Solihull.
Mostly I teach the OCR specification at GCSE, but I`m willing to explore other specs with you and very happy to support some KS3 work.
I`ve taught the whole of the A-level specification and most of the GCSE, however, I have decided to focus on the learning up to and including GCSE. I will no longer be supporting A level students
Since Computer Science replaced ICT for Key Stage 3 I have been teaching both ICT and Computer Science to all KS3 students, with the aim of ensuring that they are prepared for a range of GCSE subjects and also employment.

Joan has helped my son - currently in year 8 - to understand an area of CS he was struggling with and achieve top grades - in a very short period. Her approach allowed him to be fully relaxed and enjoy the learning process. She gives constructive feedback after each lesson. She is reliable, very professional and I would recommend without hesitation!
