Information about Sean
I am an experienced, Wirral-based teacher, recently retired from teaching English at Liverpool City Council Adult Learning Services, where I also taught a 12-week Introduction to Health and Social Care course three times per year to ESOL learners at Entry 3 and above who were interested in moving into the care sector, a course which I designed and for which I prepared all materials.
I have an excellent pass rate from all students who completed their course and comprehensive classroom observation reports (available to see).
I firmly believe that education should be enjoyable, particularly extra-curricular tuition; to this end, it is important to recognise students as young adults and ensure they are treated as such. This helps to foster a collaborative approach to learning and encourages inquisitiveness, and it is around this kind of discussion that effective learning takes place. However, learning also needs to be properly structured with clearly defined and timebound aims and objectives in order for students to make rapid, effective progress.
Prior to retraining and achieving all the required teaching qualifications, I worked for Hilton Hotels Corporation in a senior sales role for over twenty years. As a result, I am able to help prepare CVs and, more importantly, given that good communication skills are consistently regarded as a priority by employers, I can help develop interview skills.
Available for the following:
GCSE English (language and literature)
ESOL from Pre-entry to Level 2 (A1-C2)
IELTS preparation
CV building
Interview preparation
Your first lesson is free, so you have the opportunity to assess me at no cost!
On a personal note, I enjoy live music and comedy and try to attend a festival at least every couple of years with my children, who now have their own careers and homes. My number one hobby is reading, and over the years I have accumulated enough books to make my own little library at home! I have two cats which are my pride and joy, and am currently coming under pressure from my partner to add a dog to the menagerie...
Availability: I am available on weekdays between 9am and 6pm, and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
I am also available for instant tutoring.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have 10 years experience of teaching English (ESOL, GCSE and Functional Skills) in adult education (16+) for Cheshire College-South and West, The City of Liverpool College, and Liverpool City Council.
I also taught a 12-week Introduction to Health and Social Care course three times per year (from 2019 to 2023) to ESOL learners at Entry 3 and above who were interested in moving into the care sector, a course which I designed and for which I prepared all materials.
I offer private tuition to students who require extra support with their English GCSE preparation, and also to non-native English speakers who need to develop their skills for education or employment purposes.
