Information about Louisa
Hello! I`m Louisa, a second-year undergraduate reading Spanish and Italian at Durham University. I speak both languages to a fluent level and I am equally passionate about teaching their cultural components. My cultural specialism takes form in the Spanish Civil War and dictatorship, which aligns well with most A level courses.
I am available most weekday evenings over the summer and select nights during term time.
I want to encourage students to notice patterns in the Spanish language, so that they can become more independent and able to manage unknown words/structures in an exam setting.
My two main focuses are speaking and writing, as these two skills equip a student to conquer the language quickly and more thoroughly. Specifically, I would like to work on the students` confidence when speaking, as I am aware that many find this element overwhelming and the most difficult.
Availability: Over the summer, I am available throughout the day and during the evening, Monday through Friday.
In term time, this will alter. However, I will remain flexible and intend to offer a variety of hours.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I ran a Spanish clinic for GCSE students for two years, aiming to bring participants to a higher level of competence in their written and spoken language. Thus, I feel comfortable tutoring in all forms: reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Additionally, I have tutored on a one-to-one basis, helping an AS student to achieve a grade A in their mock examinations. Consequently, I am confident in teaching more complex grammatical structures, such as the subjunctive, imperfect vs preterite and the personal `a`.
