Hello, my name is Nerissa

I am a Year 1 Primary school teacher, I currently teach the National Curriculum to children age 5 - 6 years old. I am passionate about teaching and have taught, Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 5 classes. I have trained and taught within a variety of schools, including mainstream and independent. I am the Reading Lead for my current school in Read Write Inc Phonics and I have also taught the Letters and Sounds programme. Phonics has consistently been found to be effective in supporting younger pupils to master the basics of reading with an average impact of an additional five months of progress.

I create fun, engaging lessons to ensure children find them enjoyable, if children are relaxed it will help build their confidence and feel comfortable asking questions. I have worked closely with children who have a range of Special Educational Needs. I am calm and patient and can quickly build a rapport with children and help them experience success in their learning.

I understand that each child’s learning journey is unique, and I really enjoy helping children see that everything is POSSIBLE and to help them find that learning can be fun.

I have a PGCE from the University of Roehampton.
I have a Masters degree from the University of Greenwich.
I have a BA degree from the University of Greenwich.
