Information about Penny
I am a private Maths Tutor providing one to one tuition and support to all students from Key Stage 2 up to GCSE level, or to adult learners requiring to improve their maths skills for further education or career opportunities.
Ive been teaching and mentoring Maths for over 8 years. I started teaching for fun but, as the children I taught improved so more came to me and so I decided to undertake the job on a more professional basis.
I cover all essential topics at Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 including preparing pupils for 11+, 13+ and GCSE exams. I have a full knowledge of the various examination boards, Edexcel, iGCSE, AQA and OCR.
I also teach adult learners, who may be struggling with a maths exam on a higher education course, wishing to retake a maths GCSE or struggling with numerical reasoning in the workplace.
I love showing the fun side of maths and demonstrating to pupils that a problem just isnt a set of terrifying numbers but a challenge to be enjoyed. I find benefit in concentrating effort on specific areas to build pupils self-confidence and understanding. Working on a one to one level allows me to tailor each individual lesson to each individuals needs and thus improve results. For regular students, study plans, homework, ongoing mini tests and exam preparation are all part of the learning package.
I enjoy teaching all standards whether it is fine tuning to achieve an A* or helping a pupil who is really struggling with everything. By building confidence and learning to comprehend the basic building bricks of the subject I hope we can make everything more understandable and achievable.
I am happy to travel within a 10 mile radius from Sidford or for pupils to come to me. I am also able to teach online using SKYPE and whiteboard software, which has proved very successful for my more distant pupils.
Availability: I have am currently fully booked on weekday afternoons and evenings. I have limited spaces during the days on some weekdays and occasional weekends.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have been tutoring from home for over 9 years, in that time I have come across a variety of age groups and standards. Most of my tutoring is preparing students for Common Entrance and GCSE exams but as parents recognise the need for good grades in Maths I am taking more pupils on at a younger age.
I also specialise in helping the adult learner whether they are struggling with basic numeracy skills or preparing for tests such as a pilots aptitude tests. Maths is so important in all walks of life!
