Information about Dale

Following a Master’s degree in Engineering (M.Eng) from Imperial College London in the late 1980`s, I have over 30 years senior management experience in the financial services sector (investment management and private equity) at CEO, CIO, COO level, having worked for many of the world`s leading investment banks and asset management firms. I am widely travelled, articulate and have been described as charismatic and engaging with a good sense of humour. I come from a family that is passionate about sport and I have also served as Trustee of a well-known children`s charity.

Availability: I own and serve as a director of a financial services company and I am therefore only able to tutor a small number of students in any given academic year. Additionally I only tutor online. The upside however is that my schedule is often quite flexible in terms of days/times for student sessions including daytimes, evenings and weekends.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have selectively tutored children and young adults on a 1:1 basis both face-to-face and more recently via Zoom/Teams/Skype in Mathematics, Physics and Science and Engineering. I still own and serve as a director of a financial services company and I am therefore only able to tutor a small number of students in any given academic year. Over the years I have worked with individuals across the spectrum of ability from nuclear physicists to those who found academic studies challenging or have had learning difficulties. I typically tutor students for the whole of the academic year geared towards specific goals, usually exams or entrance (GCSE, A, Univ Admissions/Oxbridge) but am also able to tutor younger students or adult learners.

I firmly believe that every individual is unique and there is no single "best approach" to tutoring. A tutor needs to be able to listen just as well as being able to impart knowledge so that the whole process is suited to the individual student, specifically considering their personality and their outside hobbies or interests in addition to more obvious aspects such as aptitude & attitude levels, learning style and capacity. I believe it is important to allay any concerns or fears a student has about a subject (partly by garnering a strong foundation of key building blocks and methods) in order to then build and progress with confidence at a pace that suits them.
