Information about Lindsey

With over 12 years` experience in UK and international education, I have extensive expertise teaching KS2 all the way through to GCSE, iGCSE, WJEC and A-levels in English and Spanish - both in schools and as a private tutor.

I am a PGCE-qualified secondary school teacher, who has taught in the UK and Spain, and former deputy head in the UAE with key responsibilities in the SEND and EAL space; therefore, I am very adept at working with students with additional needs and from diverse backgrounds.

As well as teaching, as deputy head in the UAE, I carried out research and began to speak at conferences with the Ministry of Education on how to revolutionise teaching methodology to allow for young people from all backgrounds to access education. The gap was evident - students with SEND, EAL students and students who just didn`t fit into the very narrow mould needed more dynamic provision.

What is my approach to tutoring?

Having worked in the UK, Middle East and Spain, I`ve worked with hundreds of students and can confidently say that a one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn`t work. I may have two students at the same level, with the same needs and at the same period of their educational journey, yet what gives them that moment where everything `clicks` is often completely different. Colour-coding, `outside the box` thinking tasks, mathematical equations, making connections between a novel`s context and their own interests are just some examples of completely different methods I use when teaching, but when teaching the exact same content.

My greatest successes with students have stemmed from instilling confidence in the student themselves - I believe a fundamental part of successful learning comes from the duality of the student and tutor working together. I identify and celebrate every success, no matter how small, using these as building blocks for self-belief. When students discover their own confidence and begin to drive their own learning, that`s when real transformation happens - and that`s when they truly excel.

Lindsey has been working with our son, who is in year 9, for about 4 months and it has been a great experience. She keeps him fully engaged, understands the curriculum and feeds back to me on his progress. Can’t recommend her enough.
