Information about Talia

Hi I`m Talia. I am originally from rural south Wales but have since relocated to Shropshire. My passion for languages started when I was in Year 9 as my Spanish teacher opened my eyes to the wider world and gave me the opportunity to learn about other cultures. As well as my love for languages, I am an avid traveller and explorer currently attempting to tick off as many European cities as possible. I also enjoy fitness such as swimming and going to exercise classes. I enjoy reading foreign fictional thriller novels, cooking and I am in the process of teaching myself German in my spare time.

Availability: I am available Monday to Friday daytime as well as evenings. Please let me know your preferred availability and I will do my best to work around your schedule.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: After teaching English in Spain and working as a Spanish language assistant in the UK, I knew that teaching languages was a career I wanted to pursue. Since becoming a qualified teacher in 2019, I have worked in secondary schools in Wales, Shropshire and South West London. I have experience teaching French and Spanish at KS3, KS4 and KS5 with various exam boards such as AQA, WJEC and Edexcel. During the pandemic, I tutored GCSE students 1:1 and small groups via Teams who were aiming to take French A-Level. This is where I first gained experience tutoring online on various platforms such as Teams and Zoom. I am currently tutoring adults with no prior knowledge of French or Spanish, GCSE students and primary children therefore I work with all age groups and abilities.

My teaching methodology is determined by various factors such as the age and ability of the learner but ultimately by their goal. I aim to ensure that lessons for younger learners include plenty of focus on phonics as well as repetition via games and songs. For GCSE learners, it is essential to develop the exam techniques that exam boards require but I also enjoy planning engaging and stimulating activities which focus on all four skills (speaking, listening, reading & writing). For adults aiming to achieve a basic understanding of the language, I ensure that the content that I include is relevant, enjoyable and, most importantly, enables them to succeed to allow them to feel motivated and confident in themselves. I carefully plan and tailor all sessions and I am very enthusiastic and patient when it comes to delivering the sessions.
