I am a dedicated, approachable Exeter graduate with a deep love of literature and the English language. Alongside my academic appreciation of books, poems, and plays I am also an actor and love nothing more than lifting the words off the page and making sense of them through performance as well as through written comprehension. It is my firm belief that this more holistic approach to the English language, not often seen inside the classroom, is crucial to a better understanding and appreciation of it.

I have applied this method whilst working in schools with the Young Shakespeare Company, helping kids get to grips with (and excited about) Shakespeare’s works. This approach has then played a crucial role in enhancing the GCSE English Literature grades of the students who participated.

Early on in my own school career I struggled with some elements of traditional education and so know how it feels to be behind in class and not keeping up with the academic standards of my peers. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to receive tutoring myself as well as come under the wing of some inspiring teachers who instilled a self-confidence and passion for learning that has stayed with me to this day. It also spurred me to achieve high grades at GCSE and A-Level then go on to study English and Drama at university.

My ultimate aim as a tutor is to instil confidence in my students’ abilities as English scholars as well as encourage them to see literature and the English language not as an intimidating hurdle but as a potential source of great joy and inspiration.
