I am an English GCSE/A-Level teacher/private tutor and freelance writer who lives in York with my family. I have also been working for the AQA Exam Board for many years, now as a Team Leader of Examiners and an A-Level Language advisor to schools.

I am passionate about the power of language and I enjoy helping young people improve their English skills.

Availability: Evenings and weekends.

Experience: I have been teaching secondary English (Key Stage 3-KS 5) for fifteen years, helping students of varied ages and abilities make progress. I have experience as a KS3 Coordinator and Acting Head of English.

For many years I have helped students as a private English tutor; my students have made excellent progress, achieving and eclipsing targets on exams. For example, I tutored a C/D borderline student from Tadcaster and he achieved an A in English. I have helped students with dyslexia and other special needs. Students enjoy the lessons; I cater to their unique learning styles and often use IT to help students with writing.

I am a Team Leader for AQA Literature exam marking and have been marking for six years.

I have also recently started a position with AQA as a Lead Expert for A-Level English Language. I will be advising schools about the curriculum on an ad-hoc basis.
