Information about Danielle
I have a first class degree from the University of Sheffield in Bioengineering, combining engineering with biology. I`m currently finishing my PhD at the University of Liverpool in tissue engineering of the cornea. This involved combining material science with biology in an effort to create a transparent, cellular structure. I`m a STEM ambassador and hope to inspire others to consider a STEM career!
Availability: I`m currently available most weekdays (and some weekends) so can be flexible with timings to accommodate what`s best for you!
Willing to travel: 4 miles
Experience: I have helped out at many events where we showcase our institutes research to the public. This has ranged from explaining the different types of silks a spider can produce to the importance of applying sunscreen correctly. As part of being a STEM ambassador, I regularly go into schools/invite schools into our labs to encourage students to pursue their love of science. I`ve also volunteered at science camps with students who have an interest in bioengineering, where I planned introductory lessons and set a Design and Make challenge. I originally started mentoring first year students when I was completing my undergraduate degree. This has been continued throughout my PhD except with students who are just starting their A-levels and are considering applying to universities.
