Information about Richard

Hello! I am a diligent and professional teacher with over seven years of communication and customer service experience now aimed at the humanitarian and education sector.

I have an interest in international affairs and other cultures instigated by my travels to Central America and Europe. My travels not only made me realise how I could adapt to a completely different way of life for long periods of time but also changed me philosophically. Being a member of my Universities’ socialist worker party and running campaign groups/events has gave me a way to channel my political opinions and help others.
An avid reader and fan of the arts I especially enjoy creative ways to educate. I visit festivals every summer as a way to express myself and let go. A very social person, I have volunteered at various theatre events and innovative design exhibitions that my friends have organised. I find that it is a great way to keep the creative mind active and use this way of thinking to approach my own work in a different light.

Availability: Immediate and flexible

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: CELTA QUALIFIED GRADE `A`

This year I worked on a government charity scheme integrating Pakistani, Somali and Bangladeshi mothers into the Birmingham community. As an ESOL teacher I taught adult learners of different ages who were all part of a support scheme. The role was not just teaching elementary English but also aimed at building their confidence as independent women. Due to the sensitive nature of the role the content of my teaching had to be carefully selected and the methods used had to be delicate.

It was a fantastic experience engaging with a part of the community I had not previously met and teaching not only language but general classroom skills, e.g. English characters and how to use a pen.

Adapting course materials to cater to a variety of level within the classroom is one of my favourite parts of teaching. I love the creative aspect of forming my own materials and managing the classroom so my students are equally challenged or assisting each other. I am very interested in the scientific research behind teaching and new methods especially kinaesthetic, which works especially well with children or young learners.

Recently CELTA qualified and with ample classroom experience I am ready to commit to a role and get to know my student/s and focus my classes on their specific learning styles to produce the best results.

I have written my own workshops and facilitated learning events for the British Red Cross as I am committed to constant evaluation and advancement as a teacher.
