Information about Rosie

I began my teacher training studies in 2021 academic year but have since decided to pursue another career. However, I still have a passion for education and helping those that may need a more tailored approach to their learning. COVID has left a lasting impact, on those who had to complete A-level/GCSEs and their last years of primary during this time, as well as those that only just began school in their early years. Schools have to play catch up and so do the students.

I am DBS checked, am happy to work with a wide range of ages, and am SEN friendly, given I have a variety of neurodivergences and learning disabilities myself.

My prices are a guide, but if you feel like your child would benefit from the help but you can`t sustain long-term help financially, please speak to me. I am a foster care leaver, and very much understand that tutors can be this unreachable commodity.

I would like to note that I am all-inclusive in terms of people (LGBTQIA+, race, religion, etc) and will not work with any family that consciously aligns themselves to discriminate against any group.

I travel to student`s homes, I cannot work at mine, and I do not offer online sessions. It is difficult to work in a public space e.g. office, library so it is not something I particularly offer.

Pronouns: she/her

I am DBS checked, have a BSc in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry, and studied Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at A-level.

Availability: My availability varies week to week as I currently do shift work, so this is something ton consider if you`re looking to book with me. Weekends are best, as I only work one full weekend every four weeks.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: I`ve been tutoring for a little over two years now, with most students increasing their grades by 2-3 levels. This is through a combination of content study, cognitive science understanding, and learning how exam boards think - not necessarily learning to the mark scheme because that helps no one in the long term.
I have experience in classroom teaching, as well as some TA work and so am used to these environments as well as how to facilitate work for the student that is beneficial for the school workload. I do not believe in adding to a student`s workload, in order to promote healthy work-life balance and wellbeing, meaning I try to include homework/test reviews where possible, as well as limiting additional work given by sessions. At most, it is usually a "grade these questions from red to green".
I like to teach so that a student understands the principle that this theory comes from, because I often find from my personal experience, and from students` that rote learning doesn`t get one far. It doesn`t teach skills beyond memorisation. I focus on the subject, but also on cognitive science and ensuring that students are aware of that (age-appropriate).

I`m happy to lend help with revision techniques, exam techniques as well as just academic advice in general.
