Information about Lorraine
I have retired from full time teaching and a career in senior management, but love using my experience in a relaxed, informal setting to help individual learners, or small groups of learners, to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding.
Helping people to learn something new, or get even better at something they can already do, is the most rewarding aspect of being a teacher. We all know what it feels like to struggle with something new, and experience has taught me that the best way to learn is to feel relaxed and to enjoy the experience. That`s why I have always sought to find interesting, fun ways of supporting my learners.
I have many interests, particularly music (all genres), animals and the countryside. France is probably my spiritual home - I love the country, the culture, the language. Two years ago I achieved a small personal ambition: I was taken for a French person when I was in France!
Availability: I am flexible - and can accommodate the needs of most people. It`s one of the benefits of being retired!
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have taught a range of subjects (to both young and adult learners) at various levels during my career. I spent many years working in schools, teaching Modern Languages (French and German), becoming Head of Faculty, then Senior Teacher and Deputy Headteacher, before deciding to branch out into other areas of interest. I undertook some free lance consultancy work in performance management for the DfE. I also spent five interesting years with the Police Service, training new recruits and also running courses in Coaching and Development and Core Leadership Skills.
I returned to my roots for a couple of years, before I retired, working as a manager and tutor in college of further education. There, I taught ESOL, Literacy and Functional Skills English. Communication skills are so important in every facet of our lives, but particularly now that the job market is so tough.
