Information about Sheila

A passionate, experienced and skilled full-time tutor who specialises in English Language, Literature, French and German from Key stage 1 to degree level.

Availability: Most week days between 10am and 3pm.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: I am an experienced, full time tutor and teacher from London; I have a BA in French and German, MA in Linguistics, certTESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and am also a qualified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). My extensive training has meant that I have been able to implement mind programming techniques to my lessons and workshops, specialising in tailor making programs to ensure that I bring out the best in children, teenagers and adults.

For the last 9 years I have not only been working with students as a tutor in Languages (French/German) and English Language and a Literature, I have also been teaching English to speakers of other languages. Tutoring includes helping students achieve their targets as well as preparations for all entrance exams including 7+, 11+, 13+, GCSEs and A Levels. From a mentoring point of view, I have assisted students in building their confidence, organising their timetables as well as effective learning strategies. For older students, I have also guided them with career advice including subject choices for GCSEs/A Levels and personal statements at University application stages.

I also have extensive experience working with students who have special educational needs (SEN), including autism and ADHD; I use a tailor-made approach which incorporates a step by step process, ensuring that the lessons are planned predominantly around the individual`s specific learning style so that he/she is able to learn in the most effective way (visual, auditory, reading/writing or kinesthetic).

Most of my sessions have been on a one to one level although I have also had small groups of up to four based on the level of students. Every year my students not only excel in the target subjects, but their overall confidence and self esteem improves significantly and they are able to apply the planning and revising/reviewing skills they have learned to other Humanities subjects such as Geography and History. For me, that’s the most amazing reward as I feel these skills are transferable and help them across all platforms in life. Prior to creating my own set up, I worked as part time tutor for a tutoring agency called ‘London’s Learning.’ During my time there, I taught English to two princes from Qatar as a summer assignment and even helped prepare a young 14-year old student for entrance exams for Eton, which he passed.

I have helped countless secondary level students as well as primary level students to surpass their targets over the past 9 years.

I am also an experienced public speaker; as well as helping students with speech and language, voice and delivery, I also present study skills and motivational workshops to secondary school students across the UK. This means preparing extensive powerpoint presentations consisting of engaging content to cover both full day and half day workshops to large classes of up to 40 students.
