Salve! I`m Dorothea, a Classics undergraduate in third year at Jesus College Oxford. I was homeschooled through my GCSEs and one of my A-levels, and achieved 9s in Latin and Classical Greek and an A* in Ancient History. Because of my experience, I am fully aware of the responsibilities of private tutors, and since private tuition has benefitted me so much I am eager to impart this experience to others.
While at university, I have learned to speak Latin and Greek (to the extent of performing the Orestes in Greek): this has helped me to learn vocabulary, to make grammar automatic and to increase my fluency in a way I could not have dreamed of, leading to a strong performance in Honour Moderations. I now incorporate spoken Latin and Greek into my classes regularly, in an enjoyable way that allows students both to make much faster progress and realistically imagine reading `real` texts without much difficulty.

Experience: I began teaching students in difficulties while at 6th Form; I enjoyed this so much that I taught Latin and Greek to two summer schools (August 2023 and 2024), to children aged 10-17. In August 2024 I taught a residential Latin Intensive to adults (my group had an age range of about 50 years). Outside these formal settings, I have for many years supported children I know in their Latin and Greek, and still do so at University.
