Information about Sian

I am a qualified secondary English teacher with over a decade of experience teaching in numerous inner-London schools. I have extensive knowledge of teaching both GCSE and A-Levels to a number of exam boards such as AQA, OCR and Edexcel, as well as Edexcel Functional Skills accreditations (Entry Level and Level 1 & 2). To my great pride, I have watched hundreds of students pass their exams in response to my personable and customised approach to teaching at times complex (and if we’re honest, boring!) exam syllabuses; but more than this, I have seen students develop a love of my subject that is a life-long journey.

I have also spent numerous enjoyable years working in PRU’s and SEN schools, meaning I have in depth knowledge of how best to support young people with both complex SEMH and SEN needs in accessing and understanding English curriculums and exam expectations. I believe experiencing success in learning is paramount to building confidence, and as such I am well practiced in stretching and challenging the most confident and able of learners, yet nurturing and supporting the least.

Throughout my career I have established a solid understanding of the education system and it`s requirements for success; I think learning should be fun - or at the very least mildly enjoyable - in order for the things to ‘stick, so if you think that a tailored, relaxed and reassuring approach would suit you and your child, please do get in touch.

Availability: I have flexible availability during the week both during the school day for children who are out of school and after school hours.

I can offer both online and face-to-face sessions, depending on your location; I can offer the latter to students who live in Islington, Camden and certain areas of Hackney.

I am not available at weekends.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I hold an undergraduate degree in English and Drama, a Secondary English PGCE and a M.Sc. in Education, Power and Social Change.

I have worked in numerous mainstream secondary schools, including single sex schools.

I have experience working in Pupil Referral Units, NHS schools for children with complex psychological needs and SEN schools, working with students with various diagnosis such as ASD, ADHD and speech and language delays.
