Information about Jack

I am a graduate of the University of Oxford, where I studied English Language and Literature. I have tutored my peers, as well as younger students in A-Level and GCSE English Language and Literature exams. When 19, I was asked to give a series of lectures at Kingston Grammar School on the A-Level syllabus, which were very well received by both students and the English Faculty. I am able to tutor English at all levels, as well as tutoring potential Oxbridge English applicants. I have a knowledge of all periods in English ranging from the seventh century through to the present day, have excellent close reading skills, and a strong grasp of fundamental literary theory. I have also given tuition in syntax, grammar, and expression.

I am very familiar with the Oxbridge interview process, having been accepted after five separate interviews on different aspects of English Literature, and having gained further insight after discussing it at length with my tutors upon arrival at Oxford. I later helped tutees through the process and am able to provide interview practice and Personal Statement advice for Oxbridge applicants at £30 per hour. I`m an excellent editor with extensive experience in the publishing industry and four years of experience in the higher education sector, and will thoroughly proofread English-based Personal Statements for £15 per draft (with an £5 cost for further drafts).

Results and transparency are both crucial. To this end, results are below:
1. Tutee predicted `A` in AS English. Received A.
2. Tutee requiring `A` at GCSE English. Rceieved A*, including full marks for coursework.
3. Tutee received B` in A2 and `A` at AS English, including an `A` in the coursework modules. Represented an improvement on pre-tutoring grades.
4. Student working at D/E level upon commencement of tutoring received an `A` in their English Literature A-Level, getting into their first-choice university.
5. Student I assisted with Oxford interview preparation received an interview, but did not get in.
6. Student I assisted with Oxbridge interview preparation for Law was accepted by Trinity College, Cambridge.
7. Friend whose personal statement I edited and provided suggestions for received offers from the Universities of Manchester and Bristol, with three further courses yet to confirm a decision.

Availability: I remain available to proofread and edit essays, personal statements, MA theses, and creative writing pieces. However, I do ask that I`m given a week`s notice where possible.

I am currently happy to take on new tutees within two miles of Hampstead Heath Station. I would prefer to receive tutees where possible, but am happy to travel if small travel expense costs are added to the session fee.

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: I have tutored a cohort of eleven tutees, amassing over 150 hours of tutoring experience.

I have tutored, in total, for seven years, teaching GCSE and A-Level students English Language and Literature on a few select occasions while in the Sixth Form. I also provided a series of lectures on Andrew Marvell, Thomas Hardy, and Evelyn Waugh at Kingston Grammar School.

I`ve also tutored at undergraduate level, completing ten hours during my final term at Oxford at the request of my personal tutor, Professor Lucy Newlyn. I`m currently tutoring at KS2 level, GCSE Level, A-Level, have been hired by Blue Tutors, and, at my most active period - 2015-2017 - was tutoring nine tutees simultaneously, all of whom were given personalised, speedy essay feedback and individual performance insights after each session. These tutees range from KS1 to wanting Oxford interview preparation.

Although my son has had only his first two lessons with Jack, I am very impressed with Jack`s precise and thorough style of tutoring. He has provided feedback after each session and homework. He has a very focussed approach to English and my son feels very confident with the guidance provided : also, we very much appreciate Jack tutoring and our home.
