I`m a qualified Primary teacher, offering tutoring in Maths and English, on a 1-1 or small group basis, to KS2 pupils, specialising in SATs and/or 11+ examinations.

My approach:

In the first session, I will speak to you and your child about which areas they are looking to improve in and what you are both hoping to achieve from tutoring. With this in mind, I will then try a number of activities and questions with your child to understand how they like to learn, which teaching methods suit them best, and to determine the right pace for their learning.

I will plan personalised sessions to cover the content needed in a way that suits your child. For many students, tutoring allows them to be able to express issues they have in the classroom but may feel too shy to ask for help with in a big group. My sessions will develop your child`s confidence in themselves and their abilities, as well as enabling them to make progress with their learning.

My experience:

I`m Primary trained teacher, who has taught in both KS1 and KS2, specialising in Key Stage 2. Having worked as a classroom teacher in Year 5 and 6 for four years, I hold a PGDE, completed as part of the Teach First Training Programme, and have a detailed knowledge of all aspects of the Key Stage 2 curriculum. Having taught two Year 6 classes, I have an in-depth understanding of the requirements for SATs preparation, in both English and Maths. Furthermore, over the last twelve months, I have worked as an in-school tutor, as part of the National Tutoring Programme, offering support to Year 6 children in the build up to their SATs.

Finally, having attended King Edward`s School, Birmingham, as well as sitting six 11+ exams, I have detailed, first hand experience of the requirements to pass the 11+ examination.

Experience: -> Key Stage 2 Primary teacher, with four years of experience.
-> Part of the National Tutoring Programme, responsible for delivering in-school tutoring to Year 6 pupils in the build up to their SATs.
-> Detailed knowledge of the Year 5 and 6 curriculum, with experience delivering lessons to both Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.
-> Primary trained, comfortable working with pupils from Year 1 to Year 6.
-> Maths lead, responsible for the improvement of the implementation of the maths curriculum across a school.
-> Experience working in small intervention groups, with SEND and Greater Depth ability children.
-> Hands on experience of studying for, and passing, six 11+ entrance exams, including King Edward`s Birmingham (the secondary school which I attended).
