Information about Kay
Decades in the classroom have taught me that varying the learning style is one of the key things which helps higher and lower attainers. One to one tuition means students are free of all distractions to focus on their own skills. Throughout my teaching career Ive used strategies based on the latest cognitive science, such as retrieval practice, spaces practice and my favourite - dual coding. However none of these are much use unless combined with a sense of humour.
99% of my students reach their targets and beyond. I have two grown up children so also understand parents point of view and how important it is to use time efficiently. English Language and Literature have to compete with a raft of other subjects but ironically they are the catalyst which enhances the others. I aim to make each lesson as individual as possible and arm you with the knowledge to go forward and really access the subject. Although examination boards dont embrace quirky imperfections in writing styles, they genuinely want students to enjoy the experience of expressing themselves in an interesting and articulate way. Because of the current economic turmoil I have frozen my fees which parents really appreciate.
Availability: I teach in the evenings, usually from home. It is really easier for me to access my resources from here and geographically easy for students.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: 16 years classroom experience and two years tutoring experience.
I have taught in two large state secondary schools, both graded Outstanding so I have been so lucky to learn from some wonderful mentors and role models. I have also taught in the private sector, in a smaller fee paying secondary school, so understand what parents are looking for when they invest heavily in education. All of my experience is Hampshire based.

My daughter has just completed her GCSE English Language and English Literature exams with a big smile. Through Kay`s tutoring, my daughter has managed to dig each topic much deeper, has significantly improved her time management, learnt many tips on exam technique, and she became much more confident in both English subjects. Kay is thorough, approachable and helpful. My daughter is very pleased with the progress and the achievements she made through tutoring. Thank you Kay!

We have been absolutely delighted with Kay as a tutor. She is a complete professional, but also so warm and engaging; especially for teenage pupils. I would not hesitate to recommend her, and without doubt my son is benefiting from her support.
