Information about Lizzie

Day-to-day, I`m WRoCAH scholar at the university of York, studying towards a PhD. Before I began this study, I worked at a primary school leading learning interventions with children who have special educational needs and this is reflected in my approach to tutoring through passions, interests and the uniqueness of my students.

Academically I’m really excited by feminist art histories and their intersection with the medical humanities. I have a broad academic and creative educational background: I studied a masters in Women’s Studies at Oxford University, achieving a distinction and have a first-class degree in Fine Art from Central St Martins. I am experienced in university applications processes, completing academic funding applications and putting together artist portfolios for top art schools across the UK.

I am a trained special educational needs professional, who has worked with a variety of students (both SEN and mainstream) for the last two years, on a one-to-one basis. I have been supporting children with SEN since 2017 of varying ages, from 6-18. I am Oxford University educated, with A-Levels in English, History, Art and AS level Maths.

My range of experience means that I understand what it requires to set and achieve individualised goals in both educational and personal progression. My approach is compassionate, confidence-building and clear. There are no silly questions and I look forward to taking on new students and working to develop their potential.

Availability: I have varied availability due to the flexibility of my PhD study. I don`t tutor on weekends, but am available most other times.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have been tutoring for over a year on a range of topics from SEN primary maths to Oxford University Masters applications. I work with both children and adults to support any academic enrichment that they may be aspiring to!

From 2020-21, I worked as a one-to-one Learning Support Assistant for a child with special educational needs, at a junior school (KS2/Y3). In addition to this, I worked as a teaching assistant across KS3 (Y3/4), supporting the class and leading intervention sessions with students who need additional support.

In 2017, I began working one-to-one with students who needed additional support. I started as a Son-Rise Facilitator for a child who has autism. This involved twice-weekly home visits to improve speech, learning and general communication and developed into individual tuition for primary/secondary students.

Lizzie is a excellent tutor for my daughter currently in year 8. My daughter has been confident in maths but Lizzie has boosted her self confidence to another level. My 12 year old loves the way Lizzie teaches and her method of approach is brilliant being maths in a game such as countdown or tackling areas which are not covered by school yet. I can not recommend Lizzie enough as a tutor just awesome. Thank you Lizzie 😊;

Tutors Response :

This is incredibly kind. Thank you Nasir. I very much look forward to my lessons with your brilliant daughter!

Lizzie tutored our son to prepare for his Year 6 SATs. He really disliked English and had very little confidence in himself, but tutoring sessions with Lizzie completely changed that. He absolutely loved her lessons and really looked forward to them. Lizzie listened to feedback from our son, myself and information from my son`s teachers and as a result, tailored her tutoring sessions to meet his needs. We have seen massive improvements in his confidence and his achievements at school. We will definitely be in touch with Lizzie again to help our son or his younger siblings in the future. I recommend Lizzie without any hesitation.

Tutors Response :

Thank you for the feedback. I`m so pleased to hear that your son is doing well. It was a joy working with him!

Lizzie was so helpful and went to a lot of trouble to assist our daughter who has just started at secondary school. We would have happily stayed with her but she was going up to York for her PhD. We wish Lizzie all the best for her future studies.

Lizzie is a great tutor for my son. She assessed his needs from the beginning and builds each session around the gaps that need filling. Always punctual and happy to chat after the session too.

My daughter really enjoys doing lessons with Lizzie. We already see some progress in such a short time since we started ,as my daughter comes home with more stickers and rewards from school. Her confidence had a big boost academically speaking.Lizzie is a friendly teacher, fair ( she will tell you after a few sessions where your child level is and the work that has to be done) and professional. We strongly recommend!
