Information about Lizzie
Day-to-day, I`m WRoCAH scholar at the university of York, studying towards a PhD. Before I began this study, I worked at a primary school leading learning interventions with children who have special educational needs and this is reflected in my approach to tutoring through passions, interests and the uniqueness of my students.
Academically Im really excited by feminist art histories and their intersection with the medical humanities. I have a broad academic and creative educational background: I studied a masters in Womens Studies at Oxford University, achieving a distinction and have a first-class degree in Fine Art from Central St Martins. I am experienced in university applications processes, completing academic funding applications and putting together artist portfolios for top art schools across the UK.
I am a trained special educational needs professional, who has worked with a variety of students (both SEN and mainstream) for the last two years, on a one-to-one basis. I have been supporting children with SEN since 2017 of varying ages, from 6-18. I am Oxford University educated, with A-Levels in English, History, Art and AS level Maths.
My range of experience means that I understand what it requires to set and achieve individualised goals in both educational and personal progression. My approach is compassionate, confidence-building and clear. There are no silly questions and I look forward to taking on new students and working to develop their potential.
Availability: I have varied availability due to the flexibility of my PhD study. I don`t tutor on weekends, but am available most other times.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been tutoring for over a year on a range of topics from SEN primary maths to Oxford University Masters applications. I work with both children and adults to support any academic enrichment that they may be aspiring to!
From 2020-21, I worked as a one-to-one Learning Support Assistant for a child with special educational needs, at a junior school (KS2/Y3). In addition to this, I worked as a teaching assistant across KS3 (Y3/4), supporting the class and leading intervention sessions with students who need additional support.
In 2017, I began working one-to-one with students who needed additional support. I started as a Son-Rise Facilitator for a child who has autism. This involved twice-weekly home visits to improve speech, learning and general communication and developed into individual tuition for primary/secondary students.
