Information about Miles
I have graduated from the University of Oxford with a First Class degree in History in 2015. I have been tutoring since I graduated and have found the experience immensely rewarding, working for a variety of clients in different fields. I tend to specialise in tutoring twentieth-century history having focused on this period both at school and university, whilst my expertise in politics lie in UK, EU and US Political Issues.
I am currently studying for an MA in Newspaper Journalism and work as a freelance reporter for The Daily Telegraph sports section.
I am also a keen amateur sportsman and musician.
Availability: Primarily teach from home unless tutee lives within half an hour. Availability subject to change.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I am currently working as a Premier Service Mentor at Oxbridge Applications as well as fulfilling a variety of roles at UniAdmissions. Both companies specialise in getting students through their applications for university and Oxbridge in particular. I also work for several other tutoring agencies who offer tutoring for all subjects and ages but I tend to focus on GCSE and above in History and Politics. Since graduating I have tutored around 10-15 students, most of whom I am still currently working with. When I was at school I spent time as a teaching assistant at a music school during the summer holidays.
I try to work from original sources as often as possible and treat tutorials as an opportunity for discussion and debate with my pupils. Written work tends to be completed in your own time, as I feel tutorials are more productive if I am able to give direct feedback during that time and discuss the issues at hand. Some tutors tend to oversee written work during tutorials but I feel this reduces the role to that of an exam invigilator. One-on-ones are also more flexible in catering to the individual needs of the pupil so I try to involve my students in planning what they want to cover during the tutorials, rather than dictating the programme of study to them. Where the opportunity arises, I try to enliven both history and politics by exploring the popular culture that surrounds the area of study. I am particularly keen on introducing pupils to contemporary films and discussing their implications for the period in question.

Miles is a very likeable and thoroughly able tutor. My son and I are delighted we found him to help my son with his GCSE history course. He has been conscientious and keen and brings his enthusiasm for the subject too. I wouldn`t hesitate to recommend him.
