Information about Gillian
I am a RIBA and ARB registered architect with my own London based practice having worked in the residential and education sectors for award winning firms in London, Wales and Canada over the past 10 years.
Hereâs a brief summary of my education:
Part 1 - Welsh School of Architecture â BSc 1st class hons.
Graduated top of the class, with the highest all round design and technical results in the undergraduate course, so was awarded a travelling scholarship to Canada.
Part 2 â Welsh School of Architecture â BArch 2 x commendations
Received commendations for both dissertation and design portfolio components.
Part 3 â Westminster University â Pg Dip Arch with Distinction
Scored above 70% in every module: legal and practice management exams, case study, career appraisal and final interview.
In addition to running my own practice I have been an external tutor and critic at Cardiff and Newcastle Universities, and mentored architectural degree students, international Architects and professionals seeking their RIBA equivalency qualifications, and regularly provide consultation for other design professionals. This normally involves advice and guidance on the legal, planning and building regulation requirements to ensure that complex designs can get built whilst retaining their creative integrity.
Currently I am visiting tutor and chair a design studio for Stage 2 architecture degree at Newcastle University.
I know how challenging it is to get through every stage of architectural education in the UK, but having learnt through many on site experiences I can help students through parts 1, 2 and 3, particularly by relating university work to real life construction projects.
Parts 1 and 2: I offer tutoring and extra guidance on design and technical requirements.
Part 3: I can advise students preparing for legal and practice management exams, running through past papers, example scenarios etc. I can also review and offer insight on what examiners will be looking for in case studies and career appraisals, this provides the best preparation for that final interview everyone dreads!
Iâve been through it and there is nothing to fear â its all possible with the right preparation and confidence in your abilities.

Gillian has been very helpful with my exam preparation. She was always well prepared and conscientious; she was able to use her experience and in depth knowledge in construction law and practice management to give me useful advice. I have enjoyed having tutorials with her and would definitely recommend her service to anyone needing help with their studies in architecture.
