Information about Roseanne

I’m Roseanne, and I have spent most of my adult life studying, teaching and learning languages, whilst trying to encourage bright students to do the same. At the moment, I work at Oxford University’s Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach department where I manage an MFL outreach project with teachers and students across the country. Previously, I worked as an educational Programme Manager at the London Centre for Languages and Cultures, which was founded by Pembroke College, Oxford and the Open University. I graduated from the MSt. programme in French with distinction in 2016 from St. Catherine`s College, Oxford, after having completed an undergraduate degree in French and Spanish, also from Oxford University. My academic achievement in Modern Languages during my undergraduate degree at Oxford has seen me win both collegiate level and university-wide academic scholarships.Although my academic interests lie in literature, I have a keen interest in language learning in general and I am currently teaching myself Portuguese, and plan on learning Arabic in the future. My study of languages has taken me across Europe and has seen me spend extended periods travelling alone in South America and in the Caribbean. I am passionate about sharing my wealth of academic, linguistic and cultural experience with others and have tutored EFL, French and Spanish to GCSE and A-level students throughout my university years. I am also a trained IB Language B French instructor, specialising in the Extended Essay and Literature elements of the course.

Experience: I have worked in an outstanding state-maintained academy in Central London since 2016 and have taught classes of 30+ students from 15 years onwards in Citizenship and PSHE. I have worked with small-sized, intensive IB class groups in French, at both the Ab Initio and Advanced level and have a wealth of experience in teaching literary analysis, translation, oral and grammatical skills to small groups of students. I also have experience teaching large classes of secondary school age students in English as a Foreign Language, having spent 7 months as an English Language Assistant for the British Council at a secondary school in Paris, as well as having been the principal English Language tutor for a large group of Spanish, secondary school students on a residential trip in London. I have also acted as a private tutor and mentor in EFL for primary school pupils, secondary school students, and adults in Paris and in Santiago de Chile. I have worked as a course mentor in GCSE French and Spanish at residential summer courses in Oxford, which entailed teaching both on a one-to-one basis and in larger groups.
