Information about Ashley
I`m a full-time secondary school teacher at a school in Cambridgeshire who teaches English as well as A Level Philosophy and Ethics. I try to make the study of English Language and Literature an enjoyable experience at all times.
I`m able to teach English to Key Stage 3 (Year 7 - 9), Key Stage 4 (Year 10 - 11) as well as Key Stage 5 (Year 12 - 13) students. I would be willing to tutor Key Stage 2 students in preparation for their SATs and those wanting to prepare themselves for secondary school English. On top of this, I would be willing and able to support adult learners looking to complete a GCSE or A Level qualification. In addition, I am more than happy to support those taking Sociology, Anthropology as well as Philosophy and Ethics qualifications.
My advice before you get in contact with me (or anyone else for that matter) is this: think carefully before you decide to invest in a tutor. A tutor is an investment in your or your child`s future, and therefore you want to make sure it`s the right decision. Tutoring complements what you or your child is doing elsewhere, it does not create miracles. The tutor and their rapport with their student are paramount but a student`s drive to succeed is equally important. If you feel like you or your child is not focused at school (or any other form of learning institution), then a tutor may not be the best solution. When I agree to tutor a student, I am investing in them as much as they are investing in me, and therefore having a frank conversation about whether tutoring is right for an individual is not something I shy away from. I expect the very best and accept nothing less from my students. In return, a student gets an enthusiastic, energetic and knowledgable tutor who constantly goes above and beyond to ensure that every student achieves their very best.
With the introduction of the new English GCSE (1-9), it almost goes without saying that English has become more challenging. No longer can students expect to "rock up" on the day and pass. I have seen many students struggle over the last few years, but rarely those that put in the hours and are dedicated students. It is, therefore, important to state that my tutoring sessions extend beyond the hour I sit with either you or your child, as homework is frequently set. With this additional support, students have benefitted and their grades have improved.
If you like what you see, I hope to hear from you soon.
With support and care,
Ashley.
