I am an enthusiastic and experienced teacher of English. A fully qualified secondary school teacher I enjoy helping students develop confidence and expertise in the subject.

I firmly believe that in order to progress students need to enjoy learning so I try to promote a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. As well as ensuring students have a good knowledge and understanding of the set texts I focus on the key skills required to write essays and analyse language.

I particularly relish helping students move from an `average` grade to achieve a higher grade. As a GCSE specialist most of my students achieve at least level 8 or 9. I aim to help them understand exactly what is required to achieve the top band, with studying model answers and lots of timed exam practise.

The first lesson includes an assessment and a chance to discuss how I can help your child develop their skills as speedily as possible. I offer this first lesson for free to offset the upfront cost of buying my details. My ethos is to deliver maximum value by efficient tuition and learning with the emphasis on the quality of learning, not quantity. One to one tuition is ideal for this process.

I do put in a lot of preparation tailored to each individual student which enables me to maximise their progress in a very short time. Helping students with intense revision is a speciality and I can draw on an extensive library of resources to ease last minute exam nerves!

Above all, learning needs to be fun!

Off duty I enjoy history of art, history, theatre and walking. I also try to make time for running and enter the occasional half marathon - somehow training always occurs at the last minute!

I do offer online teaching, mainly via Skype and Zoom but can be flexible on this. I am also happy to teach small groups and have run revision classes in English Language and Literature.

However, I believe students benefit most from working with me at home where I have a dedicated teaching room full of teaching resources, past exam papers. One to one tuition builds stronger relationships more quickly, as well as trust and confidence. These, I feel, are the reasons for outstanding GCSE results.

Experience: A fully qualified English teacher at secondary level, I have taught at a variety of schools from special needs to prep schools and large comprehensives.
My experience includes teaching English up to A level both in secondary schools and thirteen years working as an English tutor.

This has involved teaching many different set texts and achieving in depth knowledge of a variety of exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas and IGCSE.

I specialise in teaching GCSE English Language and Literature. I can also offer A level tutoring in English and Religious Studies.
