Information about Matthew
I am graduate of Cambridge University, now studying towards a Masters in Philosophy at the University of Oxford.
I graduated from Cambridge with a Double First in Philosophy. Aside from my keen interest in contemporary Philosophy as well as the subject`s history, I enjoy reading, playing sports, and acting (whilst at university I performed in several plays at the Edinburgh Fringe festival), as well as listening to and writing about music.
I find that tutoring works best when the tutor and tutee both get along as people, as well as just academically. As such, I always make a concerted effort to work out what makes individual students tick as people, and how they learn best. Knowing this allows me to focus teaching directly on areas which students have to improve in, as well as working to encourage and develop their academic strengths. I tailor lesson plans directly to the syllabus or material at hand, but I`m also very keen to offer help with further study beyond course material, and recommend subjects which will be of interest to the student.
Aside from schoolwork, I`m very happy to help with university work and applications, preparation for entrance exams, and offering mock interviews.
Availability: I am available on weekdays and weekday evenings, as well as most Sunday afternoons.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I have experience tutoring English at SATs, GSCE, and A levels. Whilst at school I also volunteered as a mentor for younger students, working with them one-on-one and helping them with general homework in a variety of subjects, as well as learning and studying skills. I also have experience in enthusing and collaborating with other students in subjects like Philosophy and Politics both at university, where I attended and gave presentations at the undergraduate Philosophy society, and at school, where I ran both the Philosophy and Politics societies.
