I am a former private school Maths teacher and now tutor on a full time basis. I offer small group lessons (max 6 students) at a rate of £25/hr.

Having been a tutor for 22 years, I can honestly say that I have honed my craft. I am warm and approachable with a good sense of humour. I have a strong academic background possessing a degree and masters from University College London (a top UK university). I have a genuine passion for education, in particular Maths. Not only do I have a natural affinity for Maths but I am able to convey my subject knowledge in layman’s terms. I have always been a good communicator and, during my school days, I often found that my peers would ask me to explain things when they did not understand the teachers’ explanations so deciding to become a teacher and tutor was one of the easiest decisions I have had to make!

Whilst a student may be working towards a specific goal, e.g. GCSE, I take a holistic approach by ensuring that he/she gains a fundamental understanding of Maths. From personal experience, I know that securing a high grade is dependent not just on subject knowledge but, on a number of factors, including the ability to adapt and/or improvise, e.g. if questions are presented in an unexpected format. Having marked examination papers for Edexcel, I have a sound insight into what examiners expect and, therefore, I arm my students with a Maths ‘toolkit’ so that they can approach the subject, and ultimately any exams that they sit, with both knowledge and confidence. I have found that my approach very often results in converting a fear of maths into a genuine, new-found enjoyment of the subject!
